Australian kids falling behind Iceland and Estonia in terms of aerobic fitness
Australian kids are falling behind those in places like Iceland and Estonia in terms of aerobic fitness.
A massive survey of over one million children from 50 countries has revealed our kids are below average, ranking 35th.
Australia did rank ahead of the United States.
Grant Tomkinson from the University of South Australia told Justin and Kate there is a correlation between fitness levels and a low gap in income distribution.
‘Physical activity opportunities for all people, irrespective of whether you’re rich or poor, might be at the heart of it,’ Dr Tomkinson said.
Kate said it makes sense, given how expensive sports can be once you take into account uniforms, match fees, and travel costs.
