Australian Medical Association says government needs to mandate masks indoors nationally

The Australian Medical Association says the government should have mandate masks indoors at a meeting of National Cabinet on Wednesday.

Scott Morrison said they were “highly recommended” but said there would be no mandate.

Dr Omar Khorshid, President of the Australian Medical Association, said it was an unfortunate reality that it was required.

“In our view, the mask mandate is something that needs to be done,” he said.

“Now, if we didn’t need to mandate, great, people would pop their mask on in indoor venues and we’d have no problem.

“But the reality is people do need that very clear message from government that this is required.”
