Australian researchers discover high cholesterol link to dementia
Australian research has uncovered a link between high cholesterol and increased risk of dementia.
A team from the Heart Research Institute in Sydney analysed data from more than one million patients under the age of 65 from around the world.
The study, published in The Australian, found those with high levels of lipids, or fat, in the blood can cause mild cognitive impairment.
The researchers say 50 per cent of patients with mild cognitive issues go on to develop dementia within five years.
Researchers say it highlight the need to get regular blood checks and follow up on high cholesterol results.
