Australian tourism jobs ‘under threat’ due to websites like AirBNB, says CEO
Australian jobs are under threat as landlords rent out their empty apartments to holidaymakers, says the boss of Tourism Accommodation Australia.
Carol Giuseppi, CEO of TAA, told Ross and John she was concerned by ‘commercial operations’ renting out apartments for short stays on websites such as AirBNB.
She said many were avoiding taxes and restrictions, not afforded to hotel chains.
‘There are a number who are operating multiple apartments,’ she explained on 3AW Breakfast.
‘That’s what we’re concerned about.
‘We’re concerned about these commercial operations.’
