Australian warming ahead of global trend, new report reveals
Australia is 1.47°C hotter than it was just over a century ago, new State of the Climate report released today reveals.
The country is ahead of the global temperature increase during that time period, which is 1.1°C.
“That’s because in Australia the land warms faster than the whole globe because we’ve got a lot of ocean,” Climate Science Centre Director at the CSIRO, Dr Jaci Brown, told Ross and Russel.
Dr Brown warns Australia is in for more floods and droughts.
“What climate change is going to do is make the dry, hot years hotter, and when we do get rainfall it’s going to make those rain events more extreme and dump more rainfall on us,” she said.
