Australian wicketkeeper Peter Nevill hits back at critics of controversial stumping
Australian wicketkeeper Peter Nevill has hit back at those questioning whether his controversial stumping of Sri Lankan batsman Dimuth Karunaratne was ‘in the spirit’ of cricket.
Nevill has come under criticism for his dismissal of Karunaratne on day four of the Third Test in Colombo.
After play had seemingly ended, Neville paused briefly ? waiting for the batsman to slightly lift his foot ? before removing the bails.
It’s led to a split reaction, with some uncomfortable with Nevill’s actions.
The Australian keeper reacted defensively when told by reporters some had questioned his actions.
‘Have they? Well, I think there’s always going to be people who say something like that,’ he said.
‘I don’t think it’s contrary to the spirit of cricket.
‘You don’t want to get stumped? Stay in your crease.’
