Australians are being warned to expect a spike in flu cases once international borders reopen on February 21.

Infectious disease physicians are warning the flu can also have a more serious impact on younger people than some COVID-19 strains, as well.

Professor Robert Booy from the University of Sydney

“Normally we have a burst every winter, and in 2019 we did have a lot of flu, but for two years we haven’t had much,”

“Also, vaccination rates went down last year.

“But with the borders opening up in two weeks and people flying in from the northern hemisphere, they’ll bring flu with them.”

He also gave his advice when it came to getting both a COVID-19 booster shot and annual flu vaccination.
