Australia’s bee industry is on edge after a reported detection of the Varroa destructor mite in NSW.

Australia had previously been the only place in the world free of the mite.

“I don’t know how they’re going to handle this,” Matthew, a fourth-generation beekeeper, told Tom Elliott on Friday.

The mite is considered the most serious pest for honey bees worldwide.
