Australia’s fuel supplies slip to concerning levels
Australia’s fuel security has slipped badly, with new research finding the country is far too reliant on foreign oil and has little more than a month’s worth of oil on shore, which could spell catastrophe in the event of shortages.
Richie Merzian, Climate & Energy Director at The Australia Institute, said it only further increased the need for Australians to get out there and buy electric cars.
“The only long-term solution is to be more efficient with the fuel we have, that means bringing in fuel efficiency standards — we have some of the most inefficient cars and car fleet in the world — and, secondly, we need to look at how we can create our own transport fuels and that’s moving to electrified transport,” he said.
