Average weekly grocery shop surges by ‘significant’ sum
Weekly grocery shops have risen by as much as $20 since mid-year, according to a Herald Sun investigation, but a shopping guru believes the true increase may be higher.
Owner of The Savvy Shopaholic, Jo Munro, says the price of her preferred coffee has shot up by 35 per cent in the last four weeks.
“I think $20 on weekly shopping is a low price for what the increase has been,” she told 3AW Breakfast. “It’s been significant”.
Ms Munro says an easy way to cut grocery spending is by making fewer trips to the supermarket.
“If you go to the shops twice a week instead of once a week you’ll spend 25 per cent more on your shop, just because of the spending traps in store,” she said.
