‘Awful’: Motorists brace for traffic chaos as the West Gate closes for planned works

The Department of Transport has urged motorists to stay far away from the West Gate Bridge from this evening as planned works take place.

Chris Miller has told Ross and Russ motorists should detour “very early” and leave plenty of time for delays, especially those heading to the airport.

“The advice is detour far and wide … you don’t really want to be coming up the Monash through the Domain Tunnel because as you come out, you’ll hit a wall of traffic,” he said.

Mr Miller confirmed the lack of AFL matches this weekend was a major factor in closing the outbound lanes.
