Baby Sanaya death: Mother charged with murder

A mother charged with murdering her 14-month-old daughter has failed to appear in court amid concerns for her mental health.

The hearing went on without Sofina Nikat, who has been remanded in custody ahead of the next court date in August.

The 22-year-old has reportedly made full admissions to police, despite initially saying her daughter had been abducted on Saturday.

The body of Sanaya was found by volunteer searchers at Darebin Creek in the early hours of Sunday morning.
