Back issues which hampered Tom Hawkins’ 2015 season look to be a problem of the past.

The star forward battled with his body last year, but says he has been working on keeping his back free from injury… And so far, so good.

‘I want to play as many games of football as I can,’ he told Sports Today.

‘I do a lot of work on strengthening around my back.

‘I haven’t had any issues, touch wood.’

The Cats have enjoyed a solid start to the season, dropping just one match to date. Their attention now turns to Gold Coast this weekend, followed by West Coast and Adelaide, who are both in good form.

‘It’s going to be a great test for us as a group. We’re really going to find out where we’re at.’

Hawkins also confirmed that Mitch Clark has been on the track and slowly building his fitness on the road back from injury.
