Backlash over Allan government proposed fire services levy grows with regional firefighters set to go on strike

Country firefighters are going on strike over the Allan government’s fire services levy.
President of the National Farmers Federation David Jochinke says the levy is also gut-wrenching for farmers, many whom happen to be volunteer firefighters.
“We’re volunteering to do the work of the state … it is diabolical that we’re having to go down this pathway,” he told Ross and Russ.
Press PLAY to hear the backlash to the proposed levy
The mayor of Strathbogie, Claire Ewart-Kennedy, told 3AW Breakfast the levy is a “double tax” on those who pay out of their own pocket and help to fight fires.
“We wouldn’t have our farms if it wasn’t for the CFA. This is going to kill our communities,” she said.
