A Ballarat pub is ditching salads and vegetables served as part of a meal in the name of reducing costs and food waste.

A customer at Irish Murphys pub took a picture of a sign that explained salads and vegetables were no longer complimentary with a meal, however they would still be available to purchase as a side.

Venue Manager at Irish Murphys, Sean, said there’s been a “great” response from the community.

“They understand what we’re trying to do,” he said on 3AW Afternoons.

“We’re being very transparent with them about where the costs are going, and it’s just to reduce wastage and make it realistically priced for our punters.”
