Some Ballarat locals are hoping for an “eleventh hour save” at Lake Wendouree, where new lighting is set to be installed next week.

Installation of 225 5.5 metre tall light poles around the Ballarat lake is set to begin on Monday.

But the Get the Lake Lighting Right Group fear the lights will kill trees and cause harm to wildlife.

Co-admin of the Get the Lake Lighting Right Group, Amie Jessop, says it’s “impossible” for the lighting to comply with both the council’s tree protection policy and Australian standards.

“We’re so concerned for the trees. There’s 400 mature trees around this lake,” she told Neil Mitchell.
