Ban on ham: WA bans ham and cheese toasties from school canteens

Ham and cheese toasties will no longer be a sight at Western Australian school canteens after ham was reclassified as red in the state’s traffic light system.

Accredited dietician and chief health officer at HealthyLife, Simone Austin says, the ban on ham becomes unstuck due to the actual sandwich.

“Is it wholemeal bread, is it white bread? Could we actually concentrate on adding some tomato, some vegetables rather than focusing on one part of that meal,” she told Nick McCallum, filling in for Jacqui Felgate.
