Barry Humphries has died at the age of 89.

The legendary entertainer was readmitted to St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney earlier this week after complications from hip surgery.

He died surrounded by family and friends.

He was best known for his larger-than-life characters during his seven-decade career, including the likes of Dame Edna Everage, Sir Les Patterson and Sandy Stone.

Humphries was due to perform his one-man show around Australia in May and June this year.
