MACQUARIE’S SUMMER OF CRICKET LINE-UP TONIGHT: David Morrow, Ian Chappell and Julian King

Hobart Hurricanes have won their first match of BBL|07, defeating Sydney Thunder by nine runs.

Spinner Cameron Boyce was superb for the Hurricanes, taking 2-14 off his three overs.

Jos Buttler scored 81 to go with his 67 just two days ago and looms as a big loss for the Thunder when he jets off to join England’s ODI squad in the next few weeks.

A D’Arcy Short-inspired Hobart Hurricanes have posted their biggest total of BBL|07 so far, finishing on 2/189.

The 27-year-old batter was the star of the innings, blasting 97 off 63 balls to post his third T20s half-century. Ben McDermott was Short’s partner in crime for the majority of the innings, combining brilliantly to finish on 49 not out.

Unlike the last encounter between these sides, the Thunder’s spinners struggled as the Hurricanes batters took full advantage. McClenaghan, Watson and Ahmed all took a single wicket, leaving the Thunder batsman will plenty to do if they want to record their third victory this season.

As always, there’s plenty going on in the world of cricket. Catch up on some of the headlines before we get started at Spotless Stadium:

The first BBL match of 2018 looms as a crucial one for two sides that are still yet to hit peak form this season.

Sydney Thunder beat Hobart Hurricanes just two days ago in Launceston and meet again in Sydney, with the latter still winless after two matches.

The Hurricanes were disappointing in defeat on Saturday, being bowled out for just 109 and never really threating a Thunder side who’s spinning duo of Arjun Nair and Fawed Ahmed combined to cause havoc.

Meanwhile, the Thunder’s season has been somewhat of a mixed bag thus far. They’ve split their first four matches of BBL|07, making fixtures like tonight vital if they hold out any hope of making finals.

Man of the match Jos Buttler was explosive with the bat when these teams met two days ago, blasting 67 off 41 balls. Shane Watson (41) was good again but was run out cheaply and on another night, that dismissal may have cost the Thunder dearly.

Sydney Thunder are clear favourites but don’t rule out the Hurricanes, who in Jofra Archer (West Indies) and Ty Mills (England), have two damaging quicks that can tear any team apart on their day.
