Police are searching for a man after a beloved dog was stolen from outside a Docklands restaurant on Saturday night.

Five-year-old Shih Tzu, Angel, was secured to a pole on Bourke Street when a man removed her leash and fled with her at about 8.30pm.

CCTV of a man who police want to speak to over the dognapping has been released.

The man is perceived to be Indian subcontinental in appearance, with black curly hair and a beard. He was wearing a bandana as a headband and a black long sleeve polo to iwht a white stripe on the collar over a white shirt.

He was last seen walking south along Bourke Street Waterfront carrying Angel.
