Melburnians have woken to subzero temperatures this morning.
It’s been the coldest start to a weekday this year in central Melbourne, with temperatures dipping to 3.3° about 7am and the ‘apparent temperature’ dropping to -0.3°.
But it’s been the suburban fringe that’s really frozen.
The mercury dropped to -2.7° at Coldstream in the Yarra Valley (an apparent temperature of -5°).
Essendon is sitting on 0° and it has dropped below zero at Avalon (-0.4°).
Meanwhile, drivers on the Calder Freeway have been warned of dangerous black ice in the Woodend area.
The weather bureau says the cold temperatures haven’t broken any records, and the fog and frost will clear to a partly cloudy day with a top of 15°.
