Bendigo hospital sets up separate ward for violent ice-affected patients

Bendigo Hospital has a separate entrance and waiting area for troublesome patients.

‘Behaviourally disturbed’ patients could have existing conditions, but may be affected by drugs or alcohol.

Dr Diana Badcock, Director of Emergency, told Tom Elliott other hospitals, particularly regional ones, are doing the same.

‘It appears terrible for the public to witness it, which is why it’s in a separate area,’ Dr Badcock said.

She said it can take seven staff members to restrain and subdue some patients.
