Bernie Finn’s surprise recruit to the DLP

Former Labor minister Adem Somyurek has joined the Democratic Labor Party (DLP) ahead of the 2022 state election.

It comes less than two weeks after Mr Somyurek had announced his retirement from politics, having being thrown out of the Labor party for allegations of branch stacking in 2020.

He’s been recruited by his previous political rival, DLP leader Bernie Finn, who told Neil Mitchell he’s “very confident” Mr Somyurek can win the upper house seat of Northern Metro

“Adem wouldn’t have taken it on unless he thought that he had more than a fair show,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“He’s been around the caper for a while … he does have a connection with Northern Metro but obviously he wouldn’t be running if he didn’t think he was in with a show.”
