Beveridge bake sparks Mitch Wallis

Despite collecting four coaches votes in last week’s match against Brisbane, Mitch Wallis also copped a stern word from Luke Beveridge early in the match.

A missed tackle prompted the Bulldogs coach to give Wallis an ‘instructional clip’.

‘It was an effort (issue). I overcooked a tackle on Pearce Hanley and it just opened us up through the middle,’ Wallis told Sports Today.

‘It’s one I needed, it’s a clip and then it’s encouragement and we get back out there.’

The midfielder responded well, collecting a total of 33 disposals, 18 being contested and 7 clearances.

It is under Luke Beveridge that Wallis has cemented his position not only in the team, but in the impressive midfield the Bulldogs have built.

Joining him in the midfield is his good friend Lachie Hunter, who has spent more time on-ball this year than any other Bulldog.

‘He’s probably the fittest at the moment at the club,’ he said.

‘He’s playing a few different roles for us at the moment, but one of the major ones is that midfield role, that outside sort of player.’

The Bulldogs is looking forward to playing Friday Night football in round six, given they haven’t appeared on the big stage since 2012.

‘It’s a bit of a celebration for us, because it has been a long time since we have played on a Friday night.’
