Big bank rejects claims it no longer accepts over the counter credit card payments

The National Australia Bank has categorically denied claims it no longer accepts over the counter credit card payments at branches.

Janet told Tom Elliott on Tuesday she went to the bank to pay off her credit card with cash at the teller, but was told to go to the ATM or post office instead.

It prompted several other listeners to share similar stories.

Wendy Streets, Finance Sector Union Local Executive Secretary, said an ulterior motive was at play and all of the big banks were doing it.

“This is just another way of them forcing customers and foot customers out of their network so they can close branches,” she said.

But NAB Group Executive Personal Banking, Rachel Slade, said customers could still pay over the counter at branches.

“NAB continues to take credit card payments over the counter in branches. Any suggestions otherwise are wrong,” she said in a statement.
