Fire crews remain at the scene and emergency warnings remain in place following a fire that’s destroyed a nut factory in Melbourne’s North.

The blaze at the Cambellfield nut factory on Barry Road broke out around 1.30pm yesterday.

It took some 80 firefighters about six hours to bring under control, they’ve spent the night monitoring the blaze, putting out hot spots.

A watch act message remains in place for Campbellfield, Lalor and Thomastown, due to the smoke, which according to MFB Commander Richard Grant also has quite an odour to it, due to the contents of the nut factory.

About 10 people were inside the factory when the blaze broke out but they all managed to safely evacuate.
