‘Big risk’: Doctor demands clarity from the state government over GP payroll tax

Western Suburbs GP based in Werribee, Dr Joe Garra, has demanded “clarity” from the state government over payroll tax changes, which he deems is a “big risk” to general practice.
Dr Garra “doesn’t understand the concept” and claims a practice of eight to ten doctors could be getting a payroll tax bill of $100,000 to $200,000 a year.
“We just need clarity, we just need our state government to be clear,” Dr Garra told Neil Mitchell.

Dr Garra was joined by former AMA vice president and emergency physician Stephen Parnis, orthopaedic surgeon Dr John Cunningham and former federal president of the AMA Dr Tony Bartone for a full health forum with Neil Mitchell.
A whole range of issues facing the health system were brought up including the lack of GPs, the state of hospitals including wait times and referrals and general workforce shortages.
