The chief of the Australian Retail Association is expecting Black Friday sales to be bigger than Boxing Day this year.

The American shopping tradition has exploded in Australia recently.

“It’s become a really big event,” Paul Zahra, CEO of the Australian Retail Association, told Neil Mitchell.

“And it’s a great opportunity for people to snap up a bargain.”

He said there was a key difference between the two shopping sales which favoured bigger spending on Black Friday.

“On Boxing Day, people are really buying for themselves or family, where Black Friday has broader appeal,” he said.
