BLOG: BBL06 Melbourne Stars vs Adelaide Strikers at the MCG

Commentator Bruce Eva summed it up off air, ‘sometimes the low scoring matches have the most action’.  Melbourne Stars won by 2 wickets with 3 balls chasing the Adelaide Strikers’ innnings of 152.

The win was always within grasp, just a little slippery.  Rob Quiney blasted out of the blocks but fell on 31.  New Adelaide import Ish Sodhi took the key wickets of Handscomb and Hussey. KP, agitated with Pollard for wearing tape on his hand was run out taking an unnecessarily risky second.  The saviour and man of the match was Ben Hilfenhaus scoring 32 off 24 balls as partners fell all around.

Dean Jones was full of praise for the losing captain Brad Hodge for both his work rotating bowlers and field placements but also the sense of belief instilled in his players.

Ben Hilfenhaus spoke to the Macquarie team following the victory.  Highlights to follow.

A steady build started the innings for the Strikers.  With the rope set at almost Test dimensions and handy bowling by Stars Scott Boland and newcomer Liam Bowe boundaries were hard to come by.  The Strikers would be disappointed that many in their line up were able to get starts but the highest scorer was Ben Dunk (35) and Tim Ludeman (26), ultimately restricted to 152.  Highlights from the MCG.

Melbourne Stars win the toss and elect to bowl in an important match for both teams.  These are two of five teams on 2 wins.  Having already played 5 match Adelaide Strikers will need to win this contest to remain in contention for the 4th spot.

Stars skipper David Hussey told Bondy it’s a used wicket and expects dew later on.  The call didn’t surprise Brad Hodge saying Stars are a chasing side.  More here.
