BLOG: Second Test Australia vs Pakistan at the MCG – Day 4
EARLY TEA: AUS 6/465 Australia lead by 22 runs Smith 100* Starc 7*
Steve Smith is in such imperious form he can even beat the weather. Sitting on 97* it was hard to judge which was darker of the 3; heavy clouds looming over the MCG, the umpires governing glances at the sky or Steve Smith staring down the umpires. The latter won out and the captain was able to raise his bat before bad light and then rain stopped play.

LUNCH: AUS 4/395 trail by 48 Smith 61* Maddinson 7*
Usman Khawaja (97) has fallen agonisingly short of another century. A loose shot saw him caught behind off the bowling of Wahab. A 3rd half century in as many Tests for Peter Handscomb (54), who continues to impress, was caught at deep backward square. Steve Smith (61*) quite predictably notched another half century has looked comfortable but quite sedate.
On a pitch that will stubbornly refuse to break up Australia is set to overtake Pakistan’s first innings total of 443
Will Australia push on? Here’s John Emburey and Glenn McGrath. Highlights to follow.
