Lifesavers and police are pleading for thrill-seekers to take more care at a popular Mornington Peninsula location after several alarming incidents within a week.

In the first week of 2024, a 12-year-old girl jumped off the cliff at The Pillars in Mount Martha and broke both legs and a 30-year-old man also sustained a broken leg and a suspected spinal injury after leaping from the same location.

Mt Martha Lifesaving Club captain Chris Quinn told 3AW’s Heidi Murphy the site is 2 kilometres from the patrolled area, and it’s a “tricky spot” for lifesavers to reach, so irresponsible behaviour in the area has a significant impact on lifesaving services.
