False alarm: Bomb squad at Burwood shopping plaza, K-Mart evacuated

A suspicious package that sparked the evacuation of a Burwood Kmart has been found to be a dismantled kids toy.

The Burwood One shopping centre in Melbourne’s outer east was called shortly before 9.30am.

3AW listener Sandy told Neil Mitchell the K-Mart had been evacuated and the car park at the intersection of Blackburn Road and Burwood highway had been cordoned off.

The bomb response unit discovered the package was harmless, and workers and shoppers have been allowed to return.
