Details have emerged about a disturbing incident in Melbourne’s south-east.

A driver was found with life-threatening injuries following a minor collision in Homeward Boulevard in Hallam on Saturday morning.

He later died at the scene.

The man’s fatal injuries may have been sustained prior to the crash.

An investigation into the death remains ongoing.

A Rumour File caller said local residents were told to stay in their homes as the Bomb Response Unit was called in and used remote-controlled robots to deactivate a device in the vehicle.

Victoria Police confirms the bomb squad attended the scene.

Police say the area was later deemed safe, and crime command detectives are working with local detectives to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
