Western Bulldogs star Marcus Bontempelli made an immediate impact on the AFL when he made his debut in 2014.

Now regarded as an elite player of the competition, Bontempelli has learnt to deal with weight of expectation on his own performance.

The ‘Bont’ says his outside influences are a key to his continued rise of performance.

‘I think it’s a result of the people I’m surrounded by,’ said Bontempelli.

‘My family have been important in making it easy on me.’

Another person that has clearly had an enormous influence on his and his team mates careers so far is Luke Beveridge.

‘He’s incredibly philosophical,’ Bontempelli told Sports Today.

‘He ties great stories into the games and the weeks for us.’

‘As a playing group it goes a long way for your belief.’

The Bulldogs face GWS on Saturday evening for a place in the Grand Final and Bontempelli will be a major factor in whichever way the result finishes.

His team have become the popular choice for AFL fans whose side is no longer in the running for the premiership and Bontempelli says that he and his team mates appreciate the support.

‘We are certainly feeling the love.’
