Boris Johnson remains UK Prime Minister after ‘very damaging’ vote
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has survived a no confidence motion and will remain in his job, but the result of the vote is “very damaging”.
Mr Johnson won the ballot 211 to 148.
9News Europe correspondent Brett McLeod says that’s a telling result for the UK Prime Minister.
“That means that more than 40 per cent of Boris Johnson’s own MPs don’t want him as leader,” he told Ross and Russel.
“Imagine having that around your neck every time you go into Parliament.”
Under Tory rules, Mr Johnson cannot be challenged for leadership for another 12 months.
“But, of course, rules can be changed,” Brett McLeod said.
“If there are more scandals revealed, if there’s more anger … if that continues to ferment we could see another challenge within a few months.”
