Bourke Street accused deemed mentally fit to stand trial

A jury has unanimously found accused Bourke Street driver James Gargasoulas is fit to stand trial.

The 28-year-old faces six counts of murder and 28 charges of attempted murder over the January 20 incident last year.

It took the jury a few hours to make the decision.

The trial will begin Wednesday next week.

Tom Elliott crossed to Channel 9’s crime reporter Alexis Daish who was at the Supreme Court.

“Next Wednesday will be the beginning of the trial,” she said.
