Bourke Street mall cleared by police after item found in floral tribute memorial

The Bomb Squad was called to the Bourke Street mall after a suspicious package was found on Tuesday.

The item was hidden amongst flowers left in tribute to the victims of the Bourke Street attack which claimed six lives.

Volunteers were in the process of clearing the floral tribute at the scene of the tragedy when the discovery was made.

Bourke Street and Elizabeth Street were both closed near the scene as a result.

The Bomb Squad quickly removed the item and took it away for inspection.
