Jess Wilson has emerged as the new leader of the Victorian Liberal Party after defeating Brad Battin in a leadership challenge on Tuesday morning.

The former Liberal leader opened up to Jacqui Felgate about the news just one day after the Liberal leadership spill.

Battin revealed he did not see the leadership challenge coming, telling Jacqui Felgate “I had a text from someone early in the afternoon that said, are you aware there’s a spill coming? And I said, no”.

The former Liberal leader also discussed what he saw as the trigger for the leadership spill.

“People like to point out some of your imperfections and some of those probably I let go too long, so I’ve got to take some responsibility,” Mr Battin told Jacqui Felgate.

“These are things I have to take responsibility for, because at the end of the day and I’ve said this in the past, when we lose elections, you can only look at the things you can change yourself,” Battin continued.
