Brad Battin sheds light on the opposition’s plan to combat Melbourne’s protest culture
State opposition leader, Brad Battin, has shed light on the opposition’s plan to combat Melbourne’s protest culture.
If the Coalition wins government, Victoria Police would be in charge of a new protest registration system, with the power to issue on-the-spot move-on orders, with big penalties for protesters who repeatedly defy orders.
“We’re going to send a pretty strong message, we want to take the streets of Melbourne back, for people who legally use it or run their businesses,” Battin told Tony Jones on 3AW Mornings.

“We don’t want to silence people, but we just want to make sure that it’s safe.
“Businesses in Victoria, particularly in Melbourne, are sick and tired of protests effectively closing their businesses down for periods of time, especially on weekends.”
