An arrest has been made over the disappearance of missing campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay.

The pair went missing the Victorian High Country in March 2020.

Campers found Russell’s vehicle with signs of minor fire damage at their campsite, which was completely destroyed by fire, near Dry River Creek Track in the Wonnangatta Valley.

Police arrested a 55-year-old Caroline Springs man at about 5.30pm on Monday in relation to the disappearance of the pair.

He’s currently being interviewed by police.

Seven News reporter Cassie Zervos says the man was arrested at a campsite.

“I have been told it was a dramatic campsite arrest somewhere in the High Country,” she told Neil Mitchell.

“I do believe heavily armed officers were called in to make the arrest.”

No charges have yet been laid.
