Brendon Goddard opens up on his divisive on-field body language

Essendon captain Brendon Goddard can be a divisive figure on the field.

His fierce passion and determination can inspire teammates, and his communication exudes leadership, however he is often seen to be going too far.

Goddard told Sports Today he is aware of this perception, and is working on finding the right balance.

‘A lot of the time my body language doesn’t correspond to the message I’m getting across,’ Goddard said on Monday.

‘A lot of times we are having a constructive conversation, but I’ve been criticised for my body language.

‘I’m aware it’s a big over the top… it’s an area I need to improve on.’
