Education advocate Jane Caro has taken aim at Brighton Grammar for expelling two senior students for starting a social media account to vote for ‘slut of the year’.

The two Year 11 students were initially suspended before they were expelled for their part in the Instagram account that invited people to vote on young women.

She said it was likely they would be ‘dumped on their local public school’ rather than being dealt with.

‘They need to have policies to deal with them. You can’t put the school ahead of the kid,’ she said.

She said it was drastic although they should be heavily punished before undergoing an intensive program of counselling and education support.

‘You do what the public schools would do, they would long suspend them so they cannot attend lessons for a considerable period of time,’ she said.
