British conservatives officially challenge Boris Johnson’s leadership
Boris Johnson is officially under the pump to keep his job.
The British PM is facing a vote of no-confidence.
Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the 1922 Committee, said in a statement on Monday the threshold of 15 per cent of the parliamentary party seeking a vote of confidence in Johnson had been exceeded.
PM Johnson has been under intense scrutiny of late following damning reports about parties held in his Downing Street office and residence when Britain was under strict COVID-19 lockdowns.
The British leader was booed at Platinum Jubilee events at the weekend.
180 or more votes are needed for Mr Johnson to be removed and, if passed, there would then be a leadership contest to decide his replacement.
Mr Johnson would not be able to run.
