Broadmeadows ‘Out and About’ movie club for pensioners under threat due to price hike
The possible collapse of a Broadmeadows pensioners and retirees’ movie club could have a negative impact on the health of those in the group.
An unexplained price hike at Hoyts has threatened the future of the ‘Out and About’ group.
Tickets to the movies have doubled in price for the club, with attendance numbers reportedly dropping by half since the change.
Hume councillor Helen Patsikatheodorou told Neil Mitchell the activity was vital for elderly members of her community.
‘The bottom line is that’s what it’s about,’ she said on 3AW Mornings.
‘It’s about older residents getting together for a healthier life.
‘They live longer if they are active in our community.’
She has called on Hoyts and the shopping centre in question to subsidise tickets for the group.
