The national English school curriculum is facing a shakeup with a pivot towards “digital writing” being considered.

The strategy has been put forward as a way to make the curriculum “relevant to the contemporary world” and will utilise TikTok, memes, blogs and Instagram as educational tools.

“This is about real writing, the kind of writing students do when they get into the workplaces in the future,” Dr Lucinda McKnight, Australian Research Council Fellow at Deakin University, told 3AW Breakfast.

“It’s definitely not a dumbing down, if anything it’s making writing more sophisticated and more complex.”
