Calls to allow people to access super for weight-loss surgery

There are calls to allow people to access their super to pay for weight-loss surgery.

Joanna Metzi used her super for bariatric surgery after convincing the superannuation commissioner it was beneficial for her life.

Joanna has since lost over 50kg.

She told Tom Elliott everyone should have that option for procedures that will prolong their lives.

“I don’t think you should be able to use it for things that are not life-threatening,” she said.

Tom said accessing super for procedures that help a person actually reach retirement age does make sense.
