Calls to raise the legal age of cigarette purchases to 21
Leading cancer doctors are calling to raise the legal age for buying cigarettes.
Dr Christopher Steer, president of the Private Cancer Physicians of Australia, told Tom Elliott anything that helps reduce the impact of smoking is worth considering.
“Most people will start in their late teens,” Dr Steer said.
“If you can do anything to delay that, they’re less likely to start and therefore less likely to get all the health impacts.”
