There have been renewed calls to reduce the speed limit across suburban Melbourne to 30km per hour.

The City of Yarra is already trialling 30 zones in some locations.

Tom Elliott is concerned the idea may have legs, but the RACV doesn’t think there’s cause for alarm.

Manager of public policy Brian Negus told Tom the idea of 30 zones is ‘certainly not tenable’.

‘It would lack credibility completely,’ he said. 

Mr Negus said there are other options being considered that would be much more preferable.
