Calls to repurpose Mickleham quarantine facility

There are calls to use the Mickleham quarantine facility as crisis accommodation for homeless Victorians.
The $580 million centre, which was built after the COVID pandemic began, is being used to house COVID-infected people who can’t isolate safely at home.
There are some 80 people isolating at the facility, and cost $6.5 million to run for the months of May and June.
It’s prompted calls for the centre to be used in other ways, such as crisis accommodation.
Major Brendan Nottle from the Salvation Army said it was a concept worth considering.
“We have got to be thinking outside of the box about options and this one, I think, is worth thinking through,” he told Neil Mitchell.
