Calls to rid football of junk food ads
The AFL is being called on to dump junk food advertising.
Jane Martin from the Obesity Policy Coalition told Tom Elliott the message of junk food reaches too many children.
“The 2017 Grand Final was the highest-rating program for kids under 15,” Ms Martin said.
“It’s very powerful.
“We’re just saying maybe it’s time for the AFL to look towards other sponsors that aren’t undermining healthy diets, particularly in a match that’s so popular with kids.”
Ms Martin said overweight rates in kids as already at a “concerning” level.
But Tom said he doesn’t like the footy becoming a vehicle for social change.
